Sat Vachan (Seven Vows) in Hindu Marriage. (English version)
In the Hindu culture, marriage is one of the sixteen sanskars. A few rituals are observed during the Vivah Sanskar. Taking seven vows is the important ritual of the marriage.
The place of a married woman is to the left side of her husband. The bride does not come to the left side of  the groom till he accepts the seven vows of hers (bride's). So on asking by the groom to come and sit to his  left side, the bride asks for seven vows before coming to the left side of the bridegroom.
The seven vows -
The bride asks the bride groom -
1. "When you do any religious activity or go on to the pilgrimage or do the udhyapan of a vrat or donate any thing. You should always take me with you. If you agree to it, I can come to your left side."
2. "If you respect my parents, as you respect yours, do the religious acts and always have faith in God, I can  come to your left side."
3. "If you properly bring up our children as well as our pet animals, I can come to your left side".
4. "Sorrows and joys are unavoidable for a household according to his good and bad deeds, but you should always be patient and remain courageous. You should always bear in mind the income and expenditure and spend the money accordingly. If you agree to it, I can come to your left side."
5. "If you take my advice for the activities related to our family, the marriage or engagements etc, I can come to your left side."
6. "When I am with my sahelies (friends) and other women, you should not insult me in front of them."
7. "You should treat other women just like sisters or mothers and always have affection for me in your heart and should not get angry over any trifling matters. If you agree to it, I can come to your left side."
Then the bride groom also asks for the following vow-
You should follow my advice, remain faithful to me, use sweet words while talking to me, you should serve my parents, have affections with my sisters and help me in our household activities and responsibilities.
If you agree to it, you are welcome and come to my left side.

6-2-8 Dhaiyya of Shani / Saturn (Laghu Kalyani )

Dhaiyya of Shani / Saturn (Laghu Kalyani )

What is Dhaiya or Laghu Kalyani
The period of two and a half year when Saturn (Shani) transits in the  fourth and the  eighth houses from the birth sign of the native (person ) ,is called the dhaiyya of shani.
The result or effect of Dhaiya of Shani
When shani is in the fourth house  from the birth sign of the person, he ( the person ) may have the problems related  to mother , education , land , house , vehicle , happiness, prosperity , family life etc.
When shani is in the eighth from the birth sign of the person , he (the person) may have the problems related to health , longevity , serious diseases , legacy , court cases , journey etc.
But at the same time it  is also not right that the whole period of two and a half year is  full of troubles for the person. The result of the dhaiya is different  from one person to the other. It depends on the planetary situation  in the birth chart of the person. If in the birth chart of the person,Saturn is exalted or placed in its own sign or it is in the sign of its friends or it is the lord of the birth sign, he (the native) may  have auspicious events like marriage, birth of children, promotion, winning election, foreign travels, good financial condition and so on.
One important  thing about Saturn is that this planet is known as the planet of justice. So it punishes the person for his evil deeds and gives reward for his good deeds.
Remedies for Dhaiya of Shani (Saturn)
To remove the evil effects of the Dhaiya of saturn, the  following remedies are fruitful :-
Go to any Hanuman temple and recite Hanuman chalisa seven or five times on Saturdays. If not possible to go to the temple, sit at a peaceful place at your home and recite Hanuman Chalisa eleven times.
(or) Recite Sundarkand on Saturdays.
(or) Recite Shani Kavach daily.
(or) Observe fast (vrat) on Saturdays (for seven Saturdays), and go to the Hanuman temple and offer 100 gram jaggery and 100 gram roasted Gram as the Prasad to god Hanuman.
(or) Chant the following Mantra daily as many times as you can:-
Aum Sham Shanaishcharaay Namah.
ॐ शं  शनैश्चराय नमः।
Along with the above mentioned remedial measures, donate oil, sesame seeds, umbrella, blanket, shoes, things made of iron etc.

6-2-7 Sadhesati of Shani / Saturn (Brihat Kalyani)

Sadhesaati of Shani (Saturn)

What is Sadhesaati of Shani and when does it occur
The period of seven and a half year, when Saturn (Shani), transiting from one sign of the zodiac to the other, comes in the twelfth, first and second houses from the birth sign of a person, is known as Sadhesathi of Shani or Brihat Kalyani.
The result of Sadheraati -
Saturn takes thirty years to make one round of the zodiac. So the sadhesati of Shani may occur three times in the life time of a person.During the Sadhesati of Shani, the person may have some disappointment, differences with near and dear ones, tension, troubles, disputes, financial loss, problems due to diseases or enemies and so on.
But at the same time it  is also not right that the whole period of seven and a half year is  full of troubles for the person. The result of the Sadhesati transit is different  from one person to the other.

7-1-2 On the Conduct of Life (Hazlitt's Letter to His Son)

On the Conduct of Life (Hazlitt's Letter to His Son)

'On the conduct of life' is a letter written by Hazlitt to his son years ago. This letter contains a lot of sensible advice. Hazlitt wished his son to consider life at school as a preparation for later life. He wanted him to cultivate an open mind, to learn how to mix with others and to settle his differences amicably.
The gist of the letter is as follows :-
1." Always hope for the best."
2." If things are contrary to your expectations, you should try to change them. If you can not change them, you should learn to put up with them patiently."
3. "Things are not always as you wish to be."
4." If you anticipate evils, you only make things worse than they are, through mere spite and willfulness. So you should never anticipate evils."
5." It is a bad reasoning to conceive a prejudice against any one only because you know nothing about him.If you do this and think ill of him, soon he will be your enemy."
6."You must not think ill of others until they behave ill to you. Then you should try to avoid fault which you see in them."
7." Never despise anyone at all because such a dislike means a triumph over and pleasure in the ill of others".
8."You must know that there are other people in the world besides you and they have their wishes, liking are disliking. So you must learn to acknowledge their wishes and to tolerate their liking and disliking."
9."You should not criticize the dress of others, and despise them for it.You have good clothes, but you should not value yourself upon them."
10".You should not criticize or despise people for any thing they cannot help least of all for their poverty."
11."You should also remember that you are one among others and you should never mistake your place in the society. The true equality is the only true morality and true wisdom."
12".You should reconcile to your situations as soon and with as little pain as you can."

7-1-1 Abraham Lincoln's Letter to His Son's Teacher

Abraham Lincoln's Letter to His Son's Teacher

(This letter was written  by Abraham Lincoln , the sixteenth President of the United States of America , to the teacher of his son . Though it is only a letter yet it has become a document of moral values.)

Respected Teacher ,
For my son, today is the first day of his schooling . Every thing is strange and new to him. I want you to teach him the things  which  are useful to him in his life.
- Teach him that all men are not just , all men are not true , but teach him also that for every scoundrel , there is a hero, that for every selfish politician , there is a dedicated leader . Teach him that for every enemy , there is a friend.
- It will  take time , I know , but teach him , if you can , that a dollar earned with hard labour is far more valuable than five dollars found on the road.
-Teach him to learn how to gracefully lose , and enjoy winning when he does win.
- Steer him away from envy, if you can.
- Teach him, if you can , the wonder of books but also , give him quiet time to ponder over the eternal mystery of birds in the sky , bees in the sun , and flowers on the green hill side.
- In school teach him , it is far more honorable to fail than to cheat .
- Teach him to have faith in his own ideas , even if every one tells him they are wrong.
-Teach him to be gentle with gentle people and tough with the tough.
- Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd when every one else is doing it.
- Teach him to listen to every one , but teach him also to filter all he hears on a screen of truth and take only the good that comes through.
-Teach him , if you can , how to laugh when he is sad.Teach him there is no shame in tears. Teach him, there can be glory in failure and despair in success.
-Teach him to sell his talents and brains to the highest bidders but never to put a price tag on his heart and soul.
-Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob and to stand and fight if he thinks, he is right.
-Treat him gently, but do not cuddle him because only the test of fire makes fine steel.
-Let him have the courage to be impatient , let him have the patience to be brave.
- Teach him always to have sublime faith in himself because then he will always have sublime faith in mankind and God.
-Also tell him that to get success, the whole sky is his.

6-2-6 Kumbh Vivah / Ghat Vivah

6-2-6 Kumbh Vivah / Ghat Vivah

What is a Ghat Vivah or Kumbh Vivah

Kumbh-Vivah is a combination of two words 'Kumbh' and 'Vivah'.'Kumbh'  means 'pot' and 'Vivah' means 'marriage'.In other words Kumbh-Vivah is a symbolic marriage with a 'pot'.
Kumbh Vivah is a process which is used when a girl has a Mangalik Dosh or a widowhood Dosh in her birth chart. In this process a symbolic marriage ceremony is performed between a girl and a pot made of clay.
When to solemnize a Kumbh / Ghat Vivah :-
If there is Mangal Dosh i.e. Mars is in the first / fourth / seventh / eighth / twelfth house or a widowhood Dosh in the birth chart of a girl , Kumbh Vivah or Ghat Vivah is solemnized.
The procedure of Kumbh / Ghat Vivah :-
Kumbh Vivah is just like a normal marriage. The girl wears wedding dress, parents do 'Kanyadan' and 'Phere' are also taken with the mud pot (Ghat) by the girl . The Pandit chants the Mantras and observes every ritual like a real marriage. When the entire process is completed , the clay pot is put in a river a pond . After this ceremony,  the marriage between the girl and the actual person is performed . In this Kumbh Vivah, the pot plays the role of the first husband of the girl or it is considered the first marriage of the girl .

10-1-1 Gangaur 2017 / Gangaur 2017

Gangaur , A Festival  of the Hindu women

When is Gangaur celebrated :-
The festival of Gangaur begins on the the first day of Chaitra month and ends on Chaitra Shukla Tritiya.
In the year 2017 Gangaur Puja begins on Monday, 13 March, 2017 and ends on Thursday, 30 March  2017.
Who celebrates Gangour and Why is Gangar celebrated
Gangaur is one of the most popular and colourful festivals of Rajasthan . (It is also celebrated in some parts of Gujrat and Madhya pradesh . ) 'Gan' is the synonym for Lord Shiva and 'Gaur' stands for Goddess Parvati who is the symbol of marital happiness . (Sometimes 'Isarji' is also used for 'Gan'.)
This festival is celebrated specially by women folk. They make clay idols of 'Gan'(Isarji) and 'Gauri' in their houses. The married women worship these idols for the good health and long life of their husbands and the unmarried girls worship these idols to get good husband. The festival of Gangaur begins from the first day of Chaitra month and continues for eighteen days i.e. till the third day of shukl paksh of Chaitra month. During this period married women and unmarried girls worship the idols of Gan and Gauri and some of them keep fast for eighteen days. On the eighteenth day women decorate their hands with mehandi. They place the idols of Gan and Gauri on their heads. They sing songs and take the idols to some nearby lake or pond and immerse them there. This ritual is known as the departure of Gauri to her husband's house. After the immersion, the women come back singing songs. With this the Gangaur festival comes to an end.
It is believed that during the Gangaur festival Devi Parvati comes to her parental home and returns her husband's house after eighteen days. The women folk worship her and give her a grand farewell on the eighteenth day.
