1. Abhijit Muhurat - This Muhurat is available everyday (barring Wednesday). It starts 24 minutes before the local noon time and remains 24 minutes after the local noon time. (B) If the Moon is in the Taurus or Vigro or Capricorn, then it (the Moon) is considered to be situated in the south direction.

What are Practical hints regarding Muhurat

Starting the task at the auspicious time increases the possibility of success. No doubt Muhurta is the most auspicious time to start or execute the task or the event.

But at the same time it is also the fact that Muhurta is not each and everything. It cannot be the remedy for all the ill affecting factors. So the following precautions and practical hints should be kept in mind-
(1) The event or activity or work must be started or done within the period prescribed for that event or activity.

(2)There are some actions or events or tasks which demand immediate attention and action. We cannot wait for muhurat  for them or we cannot ignore them for want of muhurta. They are of so urgent nature that we cannot postpone them. For instance if a heart patient requires immediate medical treatment, we cannot wait for muhurta to take him (the patient) to the doctor or to hospital.

(3) Muhurta is the most important factor which harmonizes one’s forces with nature and increases one’s chances of success. But there are some other factors i.e. God’s blessings,sincere effort done by the person concerned and the circumstances under which the work is done, are also responsible for bringing out desired results.         

For example if a person starts to run a cyber cafe in accordance with muhurta in a remote small village which has the population of only 2000 people, how can he expect to earn much money from that cafe.
The other example can be cited of a person who buys a car in the Subh muhurta but if he drives it at a very high speed drinking too much , or if he drives in the wrong side, how can he expect to avoid accidents and what can muhurta do under such circumstances. Similarly if a farmer sows seeds in his field at the right time in accordance with muhurta but if he does not irrigate his field at the proper time, he cannot hope to get good crops.

In short it can be said that muhurta gives the well beginning to the task which is equal to the half done. The other half depends on the factors related to the task as cited above.

What is Pradosh Kaal / How is Pradosh Kaal calcuted

(1) If the Ratri Maan (total period of night from sunset to next sunrise ) is divided into five equal parts, the first part is called Pradosh Kaal.
(2) Pradosh Kaal is a period of six Ghatis from the sunset time of that day. (One Ghati is equal to 24 minutes). Thus the period of two hours and twenty four minutes (approximately) is known as Pradosh Kaal.
As Pradosh Kaal begins from sunset and sunset time changes from one place to another so the Pradosh Kaal varies from one place to another.

(5.2.31) Muhurat For digging well/Pond/Boring

Muhurat for Boring or Digging well
For the muhurat for boring/digging well or pond, the following things or factors are considered -
1. Tithis -
Shukla Paksh - Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Shashti, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Triyodashi.
Krishna Paksh - Pratipada,  Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Shashti, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi.
2. Vaar ( Day ) -Monday, Thesday, Thursday, Friday.
3. Nakshatra - Rohini, Mrigshira, Pushya, Mangha, Hast, Anuratha, Puravaashadha, Revati.
4. Moon - The moon should be in water signs. The water signs are Kark, Makar and Meen, The half water signs - Vrishabh, Dhanu and Kumbh.
5. Chandra shuddhi or chandra bal -
The chandra bal or chandra shuddhi is also essential for this muhurat . The moon should not be in the fourth, eights or twelfth sign from the birth sign or name sign of the person.  to know what is Chandra Shuddhi click here  :-
Prohibited Period -
1. Bhoomi Shayan or Bhoo Shayan
The Bhoomi Shayan period should be avoided. Bhoomi is supposed to be sleeping on the constellation of the day 5/7/9/12/19/26 from the Surya Nakshatra ( i.e. the constellation in which the sun is situated )
In these Nakshatra too, the bhoomi is supposed to be sleeping only for 7 ghatis ( a ghati is equal to 15 minutes )/8 ghatis, five ghatis/three ghatis/six ghatis/seven hatis respectively and during the remaining period the earth is not supposed to be sleeping.
2. Shukra and Guru Ast
During the period when Guru and Shukra Ast, the digging well should be avoided.
3. Uttarayan - The period of six months of uttarayan is considered auspicious for digging well.

When is Holika Dahan in 2017
Holika Dahan is done on the Pradosh Vyapini Purnima in the month of Phalgun but Bhadra must not prevail during that time.
In the year 2017 Holika Dahan is on Sunday, 12 March 2017. On this day Bhadra period is up to 08:21 a.m. and Purnima is Pradosh Vyapini. 
Holika Dahan will be observed in the  -
Godhuli Vela- From 18:41 to 18:53
Shubh + Amrit Chaughdiya from 18:41 to 21:07.
What do the scriptures say about Holika Dahan time -
1. Holika Dahan is observed during the Pradosh Kaal on the Bhadra Rahit ( without Bhadra ) Pradosh vyapini Purnima ( the Purnima Tithi prevailing during Pradosh Kaal )in the month of Phalgun.
2. According to the Dharam Sindhu. If Bhadra is prevailing during Pradosh Kaal but Bhadra kaal ends before nisheeth ( mid night ), then Holika Dahan should be performed after the end of the Bhadra kaal and before the mid night.
But if Bhadra kaal is not over till mid night and Purnima is not prevailing the next day during the Pradosh kaal, then Holika Dahan should be observed during the Pradosh kaal on the first day during Bhadra Puchchha.
3. According to the Vratraj if on the previous day , Purnima Tithi is not prevailing during the Pradosh kaal, in that case Holika dahan should be done during the Puchchh of Bhadra.
4. According to Lalah - All the auspicious or inauspicious work are done during Bhadra puchch. But if Bhadra puchchh comes after mid night then Holika dahan should be done during the Pradosh Kaal.

Saade Teen Muhurat / Saadhe Teen Muhurat 

As per Hindu calendar in a year, four Tithis are highly considered auspicious. These four Tithis are Chaitra Shukla Pratipada , Vaisakh Shukla Tritiya (Akshay Tritiya), Vijaya Dashami (Aashvin Shukla Dashmi) and Kartik Shukla Pratipada.Out of these four Tithis the first three Tithis are counted as full Muhuratas and the last one i. e. Kartik Shukla Pratipada is counted as a half Muhurat that is why these Muhuratas ase called Sadhe Teen Muhurat. These Sadhe Teen Muhuratas are Swayam Siddh Muhuratas or self proven Muhuratas. So on these four Tithis there is no need to consult the Panchang i.e. Panchang Shuddhi is not considered for starting any new task.  
The three and a half Muhurtas (sadhe Teen Muhurtas) are as follows-

• (1) Chaitra Shukla Pratipada – The first Tithi (day) of bright half of Chaitra month. The day is observed as traditional Hindu new year.( For more detail click here)
• (2) Akshya Tritiya- The third Thithi (day) of bright half of Vaishakha month. This day is known as Parshuram Jayanti.It is also regarded as the beginning of the Treta Yuga.
