When is Ekadashi in 2016 - 2017/ Ekadashi Vrat dates 2017 -2018 

Ekadashi is considered as a very pious Tithi in Hinduism. There are two Ekadashi in one month. One of them is in Krishna Paksh and the other is in Shukla Paksh. Thus there are twenty four Ekadashi in a year. (But if there is an Adhik Maas in any year, two more Ekadashi are also there bedsides twenty four Ekadashi.)  . Every Ekadashi has its own name and importance. There is a difference in the date of observing Ekadashi Vrat between  the people of Smarth and the Vaishnava Samprday. The following are the dates of falling Ekadashi in the year 2017-2018

Hari Shayani Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi / Hari Shayani Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi / Padma  Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi / Vrat process of Dev Shayani Ekadashi

Dev Shayani Ekadashi falls in the shukla Paksh of the month of Aashaadh. The other names for this Ekadashi are Hari Shayani Ekadashi and Padma Ekadashi. Lord Vishnu sleeps on this day that is why this Ekadashi is popularly known as Hari Shayani Ekadashi. The period of  Chatur Maas  also begins from this day.
Dev Shayani Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi / Process of Dev Shayani Ekadashi
> The person who wants to observe the Dev Shayani Ekadashi Vrat should get up early in the morning of Dashami tithi, one day before Ekadashi. He/ she should take a bath and perform his/her daily routine. And he/she should take a single meal on this day (on Dashami).
> On the Ekadashi, no meal should be taken. But if health does not permit, the Vrati can take some fruits and milk. In the night, the Vrati should hear the religious discourses or read religious books.
> On Dwadashi, the Vrati should break the fast after feeding the Brahmans and giving donations to the eligible persons.

(13.1.30) Dev Shayani Ekadashi Vrat Katha / Hari shayani Ekadashi

Hari Shayani Ekadashi Vrat Katha / Dev Shayani Ekadashi Vrat Katha 

Aashaadh Shukla Ekadashi is known as Dev Shayani Ekadashi or Hari Shayani Ekadashi. It is believed that Lord Vishnu rests in Ksheer Sagar from this day to Dev Prabodhini Ekadashi which falls in the Shukla Paksh of Kartik month. This period of four months is known as  Chatur Maas .
Dev Shayani Ekadashi Vrat Katha - 
The story related to Dev Shayani Ekadashi is as follows -
In the Satyug, there was a Chakravarti Samrat named Mandhata. In his kingdom there was prosperity every where. They had enough store of food grains. So the people were very happy. But unfortunately, once there was no rain continuously for three years in the kingdom. As a result of it, the situation of famine arose and became the scarcity of food grains and water. The people had to face a great difficulty and suffered a lot.
The king Mandhata, went to the forest to find out the solution of the problem from some great sage. Walking through the forest, one day he reached the Asharam of the sage Angira. The king respectfully saluted him and told him about his problem. The sage Angira said to the king, " O pious king, the Ekadashi which falls in the Shukla Paksh of the month of Aashadh, is known as the Dev shayani Ekadashi . This Ekadashi is very pious and fruit giving. You must observe the Vrat on this Ekadashi. By the effect of this Vrat, you will have good rains and the prosperity in your kingdom will return."
Hearing the advice of the sage, the king Mandhata came back to his palace and observed the Vrat on Dev shayani Ekadashi with the members of his family, the courtiers and the citizens. By the auspicious effect of this Vrat, they had a good rain that year. The people of the kingdom felt relieved and the prosperity returned. It all happened because of the Vrat of Ekadashi.

(13.1.22) Importance of Parama Ekadashi ( in Adhik Maas Krishna Paksh)

What is the Religious importance of Parama Kkadashi / Significance of Parama Ekadashi ?

Which is Parama Ekadashi -
According to the Hindu calendar, There are two Ekadashi in a lunar month, one is in the Krishna Paksh and the other is in the Shukla paksh. Thus there are 24 Ekadashi in a year. Besides these 24 Ekadashi, there are two more Ekadashi which fall in the Adhik Maas or Purushottam Maas. The Ekadashi which falls in the Shukla Paksh is known as Padmini Ekadashi and the Ekadashi which falls in Krishna Paksh is known as Parama Ekadashi.
Significance / importance of Parama Ekadashi -
It is said that in this world, among the two legged creatures, the Brahman is considered the best, among the four legged creatures the cow is considered the best, and among the gods Indra is considered the best and among the months the Adhik Maas / Purushottam Maas  is considered the best. In the same way both the Ekadashi i. e. Padmini Ekadashi and Parama Ekadashi are considered the best among the Ekadashis.
As mentioned above this Parama Ekadashi falls in the month of Adhik maas, it has got a special significance.
The worship , Vrat and donations on this parama Ekadashi brings much more benefits to the person than that of any other Ekadashis.
The Vrat on Ekadashi washes away the sins, sorrows and poverty. The Vrati becomes rich by the grace of Lord Vishnu.
It is also found in the scriptures that Kuber, the god of wealth , observed the Parama Ekadashi fast. Lord Shiva saw Kuber observing the fast following all the rules of the Ekadashi Vrat strictly and made him the treasurer of heaven.

When is Padmani Ekadashi 
Adhik Maas Shukla Paksh Ekadashi is known as Padmini  Ekadashi.
In the year 2015 Padmini Ekadashi is on Sunday, 28 June, 2015
Padmini Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi :-

(1) The person who wants to observe Amalaki Ekadashi fast should get up early in the morning on Dashami Tithi, a day before Ekadashi. He should take a bath and perform his daily routine. He should have a single meal on Dashami Tithi.

Jaya Ekadashi Vrat story - Once in the Indra's assembly a young man Maalyavaan and a young woman named Pushpavati showed rude behaviour . Seeing their immodesty, Indra got angry and cursed them to become devils. They observed the Vrat on Jaya Ekadashi and got rid of their devilish form.

When is Utpanna Ekadashi 
Margsheersh Krishna  Ekadashi is known as Utpanna Ekadashi.
Utpanna Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi :-
(1) The person who wants to observe Utpanna Ekadashi fast should get up early in the morning on Dashami Tithi, a day before Ekadashi. He should take a bath and perform his daily routine. He should have a single meal on Dashami Tithi.
(2)On Ekadashi, no meal is taken. (But if the health does not permit, one should take some fruits and milk.) In the night the Vrati should hear the religious discourses or read religious books.
(3)On Dwadashi Tithi, the Vrati should break the Vrat after feeding the Brahmins and giving them some Dan.
Importance of Utpanna Ekadashi Vrat:- 
Observing the fast on Utpanna Ekadashi washes away the sins of the Vrati. He comes out of the troubles as a result of this Vrat.
Utpanna Ekadashi Vrat story - 
In the Satyug there lived a demon named Mur, the son of Taaljanghakaa. He was extraordinarily brave and intelligent.He defeated Indra, the king of gods, and drove out all the gods from heaven. They were distressed  and went to Lord Shiva to seek His help. Lord Shiva advised the gods to go to Lord Vishnu to seek His help. At the advice of Lord Shiva, the gods went to Lord Vishnu. With folded hands they prayed to Lord Vishnu and told Him what had happened to them  and requested Him to help them and protect them from him (the demon Mur).
Lord Vishnu attacked Mur and defeated him. Mur ran away. Lord Vishnu saw Mur running. He (Vishnu) entered a cave at Badrika Ashram to take rest there. Mur was still angry with Vishnu and wanted to kill Him. So he went into the cave in which Vishnu was sleeping. Just then a beautiful maiden came out from Vishnu's body. She attacked Mur and killed him. Lord Vishnu woke up,saw all this  and blessed her (the maiden)by saying," As you have been created from my body so hence forth you will be known as Utpanna and you will be able to remove the problems of  the gods as well as human beings.The persons who worship you, will get salvation and be free from sins and attain Vaikunth." Getting this boon she disappeared.This divine maiden is called as Utapanna Ekadashi.
Sudama, a poor Brahmin,  with his wife observed the fast on Utappna Ekadashi and got rid of all his distress, poverty etc.  and became prosperous.

Papankusha Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi :-
(1) The person who wants to observe Indira Ekadashi fast should get up early in the morning on Dashami Tithi, a day before Ekadashi. He should take a bath and perform his daily routine. He should have a single meal on Dashami Tithi.
(2) On Ekadashi, no meal is taken. (But if the health does not permit, one should take some fruits and milk.) In the night the Vrati should hear the religious discourses or read religious books.
(3) On Dwadashi Tithi, the Vrati should break the Vrat after feeding the Brahmins and giving them some Dan.
Importance of Papankusha  Ekadashi Vrat:- 
Paapaankushaa Ekadashi means the Ekadashi that checks the sins.
Thus observing the fast on Papankusha Ekadashi washes away the sins of the Vrati. He comes out of the troubles as a result of this Vrat and finally he goes to heaven.
The person, who observes this Vrat with devotion and faith in Lord Vishnu,his worldly desires are fulfilled.He gets a good and beautiful wife,good friends, a lot of wealth and at last he goes to heaven.
The person who observes the Vrat on Papankusha Ekadashi and gives charity according to his / her capacity, will never have to face Yamraj.

Importance of Indira Ekadashi Vrat:- 
Observing the fast on Indira Ekadashi washes away the sins of the Vrati. He comes out of the troubles as a result of this Vrat. Because of this Vrat the dead ancestors of the Vrati also get salvation.
Indira Ekadashi Vrat story - 
King Indarsen was the king of Mahishmatipuri. He ruled his kingdom righteously. He was the devotee of Lord Vishnu. One day while he was sitting in his court, the sage Narad came there.The king Indarsen got up from his seat and received the divine sage Narad with due respect.He worshiped him and gave him a proper seat to sit on. Then the king asked the sage the reason of his coming there. Narad Rishi said,"One day I went to the abode of Yam, the god of death. I saw your father there.He gave me a message for you". His message was ," O, dear son, as a result of the fault in observing the Ekadashi Vrat, I am in the Yamlok. So observe the Indira Ekadashi Vrat and offer its virtue to me so that I may go to heaven."
The sage Narad advised the king to observe the Vrat on Indra Ekadashi to fulfill his father's desire.The king acted upon the Rishi's advice and observed the Vrat on Indira Ekadashi and offered its fruit to his father. As a result of observing this fast, Indrasen's father mounted on Garud, the vehicle of Lord Vishnu, and went to Lord Vishnu's abode.

When is Putrada or Pavitra Ekadashi in 2017
Sharavan Shukla Ekadashi is known as Putrada Ekadashi or Pavitra Ekadashi. 
Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi :-
(1) The person who wants to observe Purada Ekadashi fast should get up early in the morning on Dashami Tithi, a day before Ekadashi.He should take a bath and perform his daily routine. He should have a single meal on Dashami Tithi.
(2) On Ekadashi , no meal is taken. (But if the health does not permit, one should take some fruits and milk.) In the night the Vrati should hear the religious discourses or read religious books.
(3) On Dwadashi Tithi, the Vrati should break the Vrat after feeding the Brahmins and giving them some Dan.
Importance of Putrada Ekadashi Vrat:- 
Ekadashi Tithi is considered as a very pious Tithi. It is believed that Ekadashi Vrat is very beneficial.
Observing Ekadashi Vrat eradicates the sins of the Vrati.
Worshiping Lord Vishnu and offering Tulsi leaves, lighting earthen lamp and giving donation on this Ekadashi prove very fruitful.
The person who observes fast on Putrada Ekadashi is blessed with a good son. If the couple has no child even after a long time of their marriage, the husband and wife, both must observe  the fast.
The story (Legend) about Putrada Ekadashi -
In the beginning of the Dwapur Yug, Mahijit, the king of Mahishmati had no child. So the king and the people of his kingdom were very much worried. One day the king went to the forest in search of such a sage who could suggest him (the king) some remedy or the other for getting a son. While wandering in the forest, one day the king Mahijit came across a great sage whose name was Lomash. Having known the reason of the king's wandering in the forest, Lomash Rishi advised him to observe the fast on Shravan Shukla Ekadashi.
The king acted upon the advice of the Rishi and observed the fast.  As a result, in due course of time he got a son by the grace of Lord Vishnu.

Yogini Ekadashi Vrat 2017 Importance of Yogini Ekadashi Vrat 

When is Yogini Ekadashi in 2017
Ashadh Krishna Ekadashi is known as Yogini Ekadashi.
Importance of Yogini Ekadashi -
- Observing the fast on Yogini Ekadashi washes away the sins of the Vrati (the person who observes fast) committed by him knowingly or unknowingly.
- The Vrati's wishes are fulfilled.
- The Vrati can get rid of skin diseases, even leprosy if he observes this Vrat with full faith and devotion.
- The Vrati gets salvation and goes to heaven after his death.
Yogini Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi - (For detail, click here 10.3.33)
(1) The person who wants to observe Apara Ekadashi fast should get up early in the morning on Dashami Tithi, a day before Ekadashi. He should take a bath and perform his daily routine. He should have a single meal on Dashami Tithi.
(2) On Ekadashi , no meal is taken. (But if health does not permit, one should take some fruits and milk.) In the night the Vrati should hear the religious discourses or read religious books.
(3) On Dwadashi Tithi, the Vrati should break the Vrat after feeding the Brahmins and giving them some Dan.
The Legend about Yogini Ekadashi -
Kuber, the king of Alkapuri  had a servant whose name was Hemamali. The servant's duty was to pick flowers for Kuber. He used the flowers in worshiping Lord Shiva.One day Hemamali got lost in enjoying with his wife and remained unable in  carrying the flowers before the time of worshiping. At this Kuber got angry and cursed the servant to suffer from leprosy and become separated from his wife. 
After going from one place to another (as a leper) Hemamali reached the Himalayas where he fortunately met a great sage Markandeya. Hemamali told him why and what had happened to him. Markandeya Rishi advised him,"If you observe fast on Yogini Ekadashi,you will be free from this terrible curse."

Following the advice of the Rishi, Hemamali observed the Vrat. By the auspicious effect of the Vrat he was free from the curse and became handsome as before.

Importance of Kamada Ekadashi-
The fast of Kamada Ekadashi makes the person free from the sins he has committed knowingly or unknowingly.It is also believed that the wishes of the person also fulfill by observing the fast on this Ekadashi.

- Single meal is taken on Dashami Tithi.
- On Ekadashi no meal is taken but if health does not allow,one can take some fruits and milk.

The legend about Kamada Ekadashi -
This legend was told by Shree Krishna to Yudhishthir.
Once there was a king named Pundrik. he ruled over a city which was prosperous and decorated with jewels. In the court of the king ,there was a Gandharva couple, Lalit and Lalita. Lalit was famous for singing and Lalita was very good at dancing. It so happened that one day the king called Lalit to come to his court to sing. But due to some reason or the other, Lalit could not come to the court. The king Pundrik got angry and cursed Lalit to become a demon with a terrified appearance. When Lalita saw her husband in the form of a demon, she felt grieved. Her husband Lalit in the form of a demon began to wander in the forest. Lalita followed her husband wherever he went. One day while Lalita was wandering in the foret, she happened to see a sage,Rishya Shring. She told the sage the story of her husband's becoming a demon.And then she she requested the sage,"Please tell me the remedial measure to the problem they are facing."The sage took pity on her and advised her to observe the Vrat of Kamada Ekadashi following the complete method. Lalita acted upon the advice of the sage and observed the fast.As a result of the fast, her husband Lalit became free from the curse and regained his original form of Gandharva.

Ekadashi -
Ekadashi is considered very holy and pious Tithi in Hinduism. It is the day of observing fast and devotion. According to the Hindu calendar there are two Ekadashi in a month, of them one occurs in the Krishna Paksh and the other one occurs in the Shukla Paksh. Thus there are twenty four Ekadashi in a year. In the Adhik Maas ,there are two additional Ekadashi. Thus there are 26 Ekadashis in all and each of them has its own name and importance. 
Importance of Ekadashi- Ekadashi is a very important Tithi.The person who observes the fast on Ekadashi, his sins are washed away which he has committed knowingly or unknowingly and he attains Moksh. Ekadashi Vrat helps the person in controlling his senses and the Vrati begins to follow the path of devotion with pure heart. 
Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi  or how to observe Ekadashi fast- 
Ekadashi Vrat is a three day process. The person who observes Ekadashi fast should not eat anything after sunset on the Dashmi Tithi, the day before Ekadashi.
On the Ekadashi the person should get up early in the morning and have a bath. He should do Puja of Lord Vishnu and recite the Stotras, Mantras etc.In the night he should listen or tell religious stories.
On Dwasashi he should give food to the Brahmin and then he should break his Ekadashi fast.

Ekadashi is considered as a very pious Tithi in Hinduism. It is the Tithi of observing fast and devotion. According to the Hindu calendar there are two Ekadashis in one month , of them one occurs in the Krishna Paksh and the other one occurs in Shukla Paksh. Thus there are 24 Ekadashis in one year. In the Adhik Maas there are two additional Ekadashi. Thus there are 26 Ekadashi in all and each of them has its own name and importance.

4. Mohini Ekadashi  - Vaisakh Shukla Ekadashi is known as Mohini Ekadashi 
5. Aparaa Ekadashi   - Jeshth Krishna Ekadashi is known as Apara Ekadashi
6. Nirjalaa   Ekadashi  -  Jeshth Shukla Ekadashi is known as Nirjala   Ekadashi
7. Yoginee Ekadashi  - Aashadh Krishna Ekadashi is known as Yogini Ekadashi 
8.Devshayani Ekadashi   - Aashadh Shukla Ekadashi is known as Devshayani Ekadashi 
9. Kamikaa Ekadashi   - Shravan Krishna Ekadashi is known as Kamika Ekadashi
10. Putradaa Ekadashi -  Shravan Shukla Ekadashi is known as Putradaa Ekadashi
11. Ajaa Ekadashi -  Bhadrapad Krishna Ekadashi is known as Ajaa Ekadashi

Bhadrapad shukla Ekadashi is known as Jal Jhulani Ekadashi or Padma Ekadashi . In some temples of Rajasthan special Pooja is done and the idols of gods are taken out in a procession to the near by pool or a lake and bathed .It is believed that mother Yashoda washed the clothes of Lord Krishna on this day .So people celebrate it in the memory of this event .
Jaljhulani Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi :-
(1) The person who wants to observe Indira Ekadashi fast should get up early in the morning on Dashami Tithi, a day before Ekadashi. He should take a bath and perform his daily routine. He should have a single meal on Dashami Tithi.
(2)The person who observes fast this day should  get up early in the morning , take a bath and worship the image of  Vaman , the incarnation of Lord Vishnu On Ekadashi, no meal is taken. (But if the health does not permit, one should take some fruits and milk.) In the night the Vrati should hear the religious discourses or read religious books.
(3 On Dwadashi Tithi, the Vrati should break the Vrat after feeding the Brahmins and giving them some Dan.
Importance of Jaljhulani Ekadashi Vrat:- 
Observing the fast on Jaljhulani Ekadashi washes away the sins of the Vrati. He comes out of the troubles as a result of this Vrat..It is said that the person who keeps fast on this day is blessed with happiness and good fortune .
