Amavasya in Adhik Maas / Amavasya in Purushottam Maas

According to the Hindu calendar,there are thirty Tithis in a lunar month. Amavasya is also one of them. Thus there are twelve Amavasya in a year.
When is Purushottam Maas Amavasya -
In the year 2015 (Vikram Samwat 2072 ) Aashadh is the Adhik Maas and the Amavasya is on  Thursday, 16.07.2015 which is also the last day of Adhik Maas
Important things about Purushottam Maas Amavasya -
(1) As mentioned above  Amavasya occurs every month but the Amavasya which falls in Purushottam Maas or in Adhik Maas is known as Purushottam Maas Amavasya. Adhik Maas ends on this day.
(2) Purushottam maas Amavasya is considered very pious and important particularly for worshiping and appeasing the departed ancestors.
(3) The Hindus have a bath in the holy rivers on this day with the belief that it (taking bath) makes them free from sins and griefs.
(4) People feed Brahmins to please the souls of their ancestors. They also perform Tarpan and Shraddhkarm rituals.
(5) Giving donation on Purushottam Maas Amavasya is considered auspicious as it appeases the ancestors of the person who donates.
(6) It is also believed that observing fast on this day frees the people from their Pitar Dosh.

Kushotpatani Amavasya / Kush Grahani Amavasya /Saatiyan Kee Amavasya 

When is Kushotpatani Amavasya 
Bhadrapad Krishna Amavasya is known as Kushotpatani Amavasya. The other names for this Amavasya are Kush Grahani Amavasya and Saatiyan Kee Amavasya.
In the tear 2016 Kushopatni Amavasya is on Thursday, 01.09.2016.
Importance of Kushotpatni Amavasya -
On this Amavasya the Purohits or the Brahmans or Pujaris collect the Kusha grass for the rites and rituals for the whole year. Kusha Grass is considered holy grass and it is believed that it has the power to purify the things which are used in religious activities of the Hindus.This grass is found at the banks the rivers or ponds or valleys. They go to the place where it is found an uproot it with their right hand. While uprooting the Kusha Grass they keep their face towards north or east and chant the following Mantra -
"Viranchinaa Sahotpanna Parmeshthinnisargaj. Nud Sarvaani Paapaani Darabh Swastikaro Bhava Hum Fat."
" विरञ्चिना सहोत्पन्न परमेष्ठिन्निसर्गज। नुद सर्वाणि पापानि दर्भ स्वस्तिकरो भव।। हुँ फ़ट।"

Hariyali Amavasya in 2017 / What is the inportance of Hariyali Amavasya ?

When is Hariyali Amavasya in 2017
In the year 2017 Hariyali Amavasya is on Sunday,23.07.2017.
Important things about Hariyali Amavasya -
(1) Amavasya has a religious value for the Hindu community. People perform Puja and observe fast on this day.
(2) According to the Hindu calendar , the Amavasya of the month of Shravan is known as Hariyali Amavasya.
(3) Hariyali Amavasya is celebrated as a festival of rainy season. People go outside the town or city and enjoy the beauty of nature.
(4) On Hariyali Amavasya people get up early in the morning , have a bath, do Puja to appease their forefathers, prepare delicious meal and offer it to the Brahmins with the belief that it pleases their ancestors.
(5) On this day people worship Lord Shiva and pray to Him for good rain and good agricultural product.
(6) At some places fairs are held on this day.
(7) It is also believed that on this day offering food to the needy people appeases to the ancestors.
(8) On Hariyaali Amavasya Shiva Pooja is considered very fruitful.People worship Lord Shiva for wealth and prosperity and pray to Him for good rain as most of crops of this season depend on rain water for irrigation.
(9) Some people plant saplings on this day.
(10) If Saturday falls on this Amavasya , it is known as Shani Amavasya which is considered the best Tithi to worship and please Shani Dev.
(11) If Monday falls on this Amavasya, itis known as Somwati Amavasya which is considered a good Tithi to please forefathers.

Importance of Shani Amavasya -
(1) Amavasya has a religious value for the Hindu community. People perform Puja and observe Vrat on this day.
(2) Shani Amavasya is dedicated to Shanidev so worshiping Shanidev on this Tithi is considered to be very fruitful.
(3) One important thing about Shani is that he is known as the god of justice. He punishes the person for his evil deeds and rewards for his good deeds.
(4) The person who worships him with pure heart and dedication, gets relief from obstacles and sufferings by the grace of  Shanidev.
(5) The person who observes fast and worships Shanidev, gets relief from the bad effects of Sadhesaati and Dhaiya of Shani.
What to do on Shani Amavasya -
- Observe fast on Shani  Amavasya.
- Recite SundarKand or Hanuman Chalisa or Shani Kavach.
- Chant the following Mantra as many times you can- 
'Aum Sham Shanaischaraay Namah.'
'ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः।'
Donations - Dan on Shani Amavasya pleases Shanidev and proves to be a relief giving. So donate oil, sesame seeds,umbrella, shoes, things made of iron.
