7-1 WHAT IS SPIRITUALITY

How is spirituality defined? What is spirituality?

Spirituality is virtuous development of the self and altruistic use of one's own qualities, potentials and resources for the welfare of the world.
Spirituality gives emphasis on the positive qualities of human being such as affection, kindness, patience, tolerance contentment, creativity, harmony, forgiveness and showing respect for the feeling of others. A Spiritual person spreads the message of affection, concern for others and need for positive living all over the world.
Spirituality does not mean being engaged all the time in God's worship, Yog  meditation ad Sadhana for salvation of one's own self.
Sometimes religion and spirituality are overlapped. But it is not so. A religious person is bound to the practices and traditions that are related to a particular religion. A spiritual person is not bound to any particular religious practices and traditions. A religious person thinks only of his own religion whereas a spiritual person thinks of the whole.
Thus spiritualism can be a remedy for the narrow minded thinking of the people which causes disharmony and hatred among people. In the present context spiritualism and the spiritual principles are the need of the hour. If these principles are sincerely practiced, only then we can hope for peace in this world.

5-3-4 Swyam Siddha Muhurat (Sadhe Teen Muhurat)

SADHE TEEN MUHURAT (Swyam Siddha Muhurtas)

As per traditional Vedic astrology every year three and a half days are highly considered auspicious. These three and a half day are known as the Sadhe Teen Swayam Siddha Muhurtas (self proven muhurtas) Which means that no astrological calculations are to be done for finding the auspicious time i.e. it is not required to consult the Panchang for starting any work during these three and a half days.

The three and a half Muhurtas (sadhe Teen Muhurtas) are as follows-
  • (1) Chaitra Shukla Pratipada – The first Tithi (day) of bright half of Chaitra month. The day is observed as traditional Hindu new year.
  • (2) Akshya Tritiya- The third Thithi (day) of bright half of Vaishakha month. This day is known as Parshuram Jayanti. It is also regarded as the beginning of the Treta Yuga. The word  Akshaya means that which never diminishes so the beginning of an event or purchasing valuables on this day are considered certain to bring luck and success.
  • (3) Vijay Dasami or Dushara - The tenth Tithi (day)of bright half of Ashvina. On this day Ram won Rawan.
  • (4)  Kartika Shukla Pratipada- The first tithi (day) of kartika month. It is considered the beginning of the new year in some parts of India.
The first three tithis are counted as full Muhurtas and the last one (Kartika Shukla Pratipada ) is counted as a half muhurta.

5-3-3 CHAUGHADIA (OR) CHAUGHDIYA MUHURAT

5-3-3 CHAUGHADIYA or CHAUGHADIA MUHURAT

Chaughadiya or Chaughadia Muhurat is the auspicious time to begin a new project or work; to drive a new vehicle, to meet officers, to begin journey, etc.
For the calculation of the chaughadiya twenty four hours of the day and night are divided into sixteen time segments. Each of these time segments is called a Chaughadiya. These chaughadiyas are of seven types. They are good, bad or neutral in nature.
In this method each day is divided into two time periods-
  • 1.    The day time- the period from sunrise to sunset.
  • 2.    The night time – the period from sunset to sunrise.
Each time period has eight chaughadiyas. For the calculation of the exact duration of the each chaughadia respective time period is divided by eight. As there are seven types of chaughadiyas so in each time period one of the chaughadiyas will occur twice.
Method of calculation of the chaughadiyas
The following are the factors that play an important role in calculating the period of chaughadiya-
  • 1.    The city. (The place)
  • 2.    Date
  • 3.    Day
  • 4.    The time of sunrise and sunset
Example - 1
Name of the city - Jodhpur
Longitude – 73 E 02’00
Latitude – 26 N 17’00
Date – 18 July 2012
Day  - Wednesday
The time of sunrise – 6.00
The time of sunset – 19.27
The day time period is 13 hours and 26 minutes (=807 Minutes)
There fore, each daytime chaughadiya lasts 807/8= 101 Minutes (approximately)
Thus duration of each chaughadiya is one hour and forty one minutes (app.)

Example 2
Name of the city—Jodhpur
Longitude – 73 E 02’00
Latitude – 26 N 17’00
Date and Day – 03.01.2013 Thursday
The time of sunrise—7.30
The time of sunset—17.54
The day time period is 10 hours and 24 Minutes. (=624 Minutes)
Each daytime chaughadiya lasts 624/8 = 78 minutes.
Thus duration of each chaughadiya is one hour and eighteen minutes. (approximately)
