(6.2.12) Nadi Dosh

Nadi Dosh , What is Nadi dosh , How Nadi dosh is formed

The birth charts of the boy and a girl are matched before their marriage takes place to know whether these charts have all the characteristics of a successful marriage or not .  This match making of the birth charts is called Ashtakoot Milan or Gun matching or Kundli Milan or Kundli matching .While Kundli matching the following 8 factors are considered and checked .These factors are :- Varn ,Vashya , Tara , Yoni ,Grah Maitri , Gan , Bhakoot and Nadi . Each factor is assigned one to eight points . The total number of points is 36 . Out of 36 points minimum 18 points are required for matching the Kundali or birth charts .In the marital match making Nadi Koot is regarded the most important factor. Out of 36 points, 8 points are given to Nadi.
How and when is Nadi Dosh  formed  :-
According to Vedic astrology , there are three different Nadis. They are Aadi or Adhya ( start), Madhya (middle ) and Antya ( end .)
Nadi dosh is formed when both the boy and the girl have the same Nadi.
( Note - marriage is recommended if the boy and the girl have different Nadis i.e. the boy and the girl should be born in different Nadi).
The result of the Nadi Dosh  :-
(A) If both the Var and Kanya ( the boy and the girl) have Aadhya Nadi , it may have  bad effect on the husband.
(B) If both the boy and the girl have Madhya Nadi , it may have  bad effect on both husband and wife .
(C) If the boy and the girl have the Antya Nadi , it may have  bad  effect on wife.
(D) If Nadi dodh is persent , it may cause  health problems to the husband and the wife and to their children. Remedial measures can help remove all these troubles.
Parihaar or exception to Nadi dosh -
(Reference- Jyotish Tatv Prakash and Sugam Jyotish Praveshika.)
As it has been mentioned above that for a happy married life ,the marriage partners should be born in different Nadis . But there are a few exceptions when the marriage can take place even if the boy and the girl have the same Nadis i. e. if Nadi  dosh is present there. Here under are given the exceptions -
1. If the birth sign of the boy and the girl is the same but Janm Nakshatra ( the birth constellations) are different , it is the exception to Nadi dosh.
2. If the Janm Nakshatra of the boy and the girl is the same but their birth signs are different , it is the exception to the Nadi dosh.
3. If Janm Nakshatra and the Janm Rashis of the boy and the girl are the same but the Nakshatra charan or the pad is different , it is the exception to Nadi dosh.
Remedial measures for Nadi dosh -
If the Nadi dosh exists and one wants to marry the same person , to avoid the ill and negative effects of Nadi dosh , the following measures can be adopted :-
1. Mahamrityunjay Mantra jap should be done in a proper way.
2. Some grains , clothes , a cow with its calf , etc. should be given in charity to some eligible Brahman.

(5.3.19) Rahu Kaal / Rahu Kal / Rahukalam

Rahu Kal /  Rhu Kaal

What is Rahu Kal :-
Rahu Kal is a period of about one and a half hour which is ruled by the planet Rahu. As Rahu is a malefic planet so this period of Rahu is considered as inauspicious. It is the 1/8 part of each day and occurs at different times everyday.
Important  things about Rahukal :-
1. As Rahukal is considered as inauspicious period so one must not start any new work during this period and  should be avoided for all important things like rituals related to marriage,Grah Pravesh, purchasing any new vehicle ,starting any new business etc. But if the work which has already been started at the auspicious time in the subh muhurat , should be continued even in  the Rahu  Kal period i.e. one does not need to stop that work during the Rahu kal .
2. Rahu kal is given more importance in the southern part than it is given in the northern part of India .
3. It is one  of the eighth parts of the day between sunrise and sunset.
4. Rahukal period is not the same for all days of the week .Everyday of the week it occurs at different time. Usually the duration of Rahu kal is about one and a half hour but it differs from place to place because it depends upon the  time of sunrise and sunset of that particular place .
How to calculate Rahu Kal :-
Rahukal is the one eighth  part of  each day between  sunrise and sunset. The duration of Rahukal is not always the same . It differs  from one place to another and from day to day .It is so because the sunrise and sunset time does not remain always the same and it  changes everyday . So for the calculation of the Rahukal we must know the sunrise time  and sunset time of the particular place then  divide the duration of the day from sunrise to sunset into eight parts .The following is the simple way of calculating the Rahukal :-
Here we have imagined  that the sunrise time is 6 a.m. and sunset time is 6 p.m.The  total duration of the day  is 12 hours .If we turn these 12 hours into minutes ,it will be 720 minutes .If we divide 720 minute into eight equal parts ,it will be ninety minutes . It means that day the Rahu kal duration will be 90 minutes as follows :-
Week day - Rahu Kal (from - to)
Sunday - from  4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Monday - from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Tuesday- from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday - from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.
Thursday - from 1:30 p.m.to  3:00 p.m.
Friday - from  10:30 a.m. to 12 noon
Saturday - from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The other example :-
If the sun  rises at 7:18 a.m.  and the sun sets at 5:42 p.m. , the total duration of day time is 624 minutes. Its eighth part will be 78 minutes .) It means that day Rahu kal duration will be 78 minutes.
Week day - Rahu Kal (from - to)
Monday- from 8:36 to 9:54 a.m.
Saturday - from 9:54 to 11:12 a.m.
Friday- from 11:12 to 12:30 p.m.
Wednesday- from 12:30 to 1:48 p.m.
Thursday-  from  1:48 to 3:06 p.m.
Tuesday - from 3:06 to 4:24  p.m.
Sunday - from  4:24 to 5:42  p.m.

The story related to Parikrama is as follows:-
Vrahdrath, the king of Gaur kingdom came to Pushkar every year and went around all the three Pushkars on the night of Kartik Purnima. On one such Purnima night as usual while he was going around Pushkars, some Munis asked him the reason and importance of the Parikrama. At this he told them the following story :-
"In my previous life , I was a dumb and poor man. I used to take the cows of the people to the jungle where they went on grazing. In the evening I brought them back home. One day unfortunately a cow of a Brahaman strayed and went away. I looked for it here and there. In this way I went around all the three Pushkars to look for the cow. At last I found the cow and took it to its owner. As it was almost morning so I took bath in the Pushkar lake, had Darshan of Brahamaji's statue and then I had my meals. Thus on the night of Purnima of the month of Kartik,I unknowingly went around three Pushkars. After some years of this event I was dead.In this  birth I have became the king of Gaur kingdom as a result of that Parikrama. Remembering that thing I go around all the three Pushkars on Poornima of kartik."
The Munis were happy to listen to this story.
Therefore, the person who does the Parikrama of three Pushkars on Kartik Purnima, gets liberation and the sinners become free from sins.
