(10.1.22) Ghat Sthapana / Kalash Sthapana During Navaratra

The Process of Ghat Sthapana / Kalash Sthapana or How Ghat Sthapana is done during Navratra

What is Ghat Sthapana / Kalash Sthapana :-
Ghat or Kalash means a pot made of clay or copper or silver or gold and Sthapana means 'to install or to establish'.Thus Ghat Sthapana or Kalash Sthapana is an act of installing or establishing a pot (Ghat / Kalash). Ghat Sthapana is also a prayer and invitation to goddess Durga to stay in the Kalash till the Navratra ends.
When to do Ghat Sthapana :-
In all the four Navratra i. e. Vasant Nanratra , Shardiya Navratra , Aashadhi Gupt Navratra, Magh Gupt Navratra on the first day of Navratra / Navratri, Ghat Sthapana or Kalash Sthapana is done. The best time for doing Ghat Sthapana is morning. Due to some reasons if Ghat Sthapana is not done in the morning , it is done in the Abhijit Muhurat. For Ghat Sthapana , Chitra Nakshatra Vaidhriti Yog are avoided.
Where to do Ghat Sthapana :-
For Ghat Sthapana, the best place in the house is the Eshyanya Kon i. e. the north east corner of the house. While choosing the place for Ghat Sthapana , it should be kept in mind that while performing Pooja the person should face east.
The process of Ghat Sthapana / How to do Ghat Sthapana :-
The person should get up early in the morning, have a bath, and clean the place of Ghat Sthapana. Make a Vedi of earth (sand) (the sand should be brought from the bank of the river or lake or from a clean place) and put the Kalash full of water, on the Vedi. Sow the seeds of barley in the sand around the Kalash. By the end of the Naratra ,these barley plants (known as Jaware) would grow up to four or five inches. These Jaware are given as Prasad to devotees and the members of the family.(Some people sow the barley seeds in a separate pot.) On the Kalash, mango leaves and coconut covered with a piece of red cloth are also placed. Ghat or Kalash Sthapana is the prayer and invitation to goddess Durga to stay in Kalash till the Nanratra ends.

(13.1.9) Manas Pooja / Mental Worship

Mental worship / Manas Puja

Manas Puja or mental worship is the worship of the deity of the person's choice in his mind.In this worshiping the person meditates on the deity and imagines as if he is performing a ritualistic or real worship of the deity of his choice. While performing mental worship, the person thinks or feels that the deity gives more importance to the devotion than the offerings. The mental worship can be done with sixteen upchars or ten upchars or five upchars as it is done in the ritual Hindu Puja.

The Process of Mental Worship
Sit at a peaceful place on a piece of cloth made of wool. Meditate on the deity and then follow the following steps :-
(1) Padhya - O god, I offer water for washing your feet, please accept it.
(2) Aachaman- O god, I offer you water for sipping, please accept it.
(3) Snan -  O god, I offer you water for your bath, please accept it.
(4) Vastra  - O god, I offer you clothes to wear, please accept it.
(5) Gandha - O god, I offer you scented substance, please accept it.
(6) Pushpa - O god, I offer you flowers, please accept it.
(7) Dhoop - O god, I offer you incense please accept it.
(8) Deep - O god, I offer you light, please accept it.
(9) Naivedhya - O god, I offer you eatables, please accept it.
(10) Pushpanjali - O god, I offer you handful of flowers, please accept it.
Then offer the obeisance to the deity and chant the following prayer-
" You are my Mother, You are my Father, You are my Kinsman, You are my Friend, You are Learning, You are Wealth, O Lord of gods , You are my all."
This is the process of mental worship.

(14.2.2)The birth of Hanuman

The Birth story of Hanuman ji.

Kapiraj  (the monkey king) Kesari, with his wife Anjana, lived on the mount Sumeru. To get a good son, Anjana worshiped Lord Shiva for years. Lord Shiva was pleased with Anjana's worship and devotion and asked her for a boon. At this Anjani prostrated before Him and humbly requested Lord Shiva, "O, Lord Shiva, I want a strong son, who must have all the virtues."
Lord Shiva said, " So be it. I shall take birth in the form of  eleventh Rudra through your sacred womb. Take this Mantra. Vayu, the wind God will give you Prasaad. When you eat that Prasaad you will give birth to a virtous son".
Saying so, Lord Shiva disappeared. Anjana acted upon Lord Shiva's advice and began to Jap the Mantra with full devotion. While she was doing so, a vulture came flying, taking the bowl full of celestial rice pudding in its beak. At that time there arose a heavy wind and hurricane. Due to it, the bowl fell down on the earth. Vayu, the wind god took the bowl and gave it to Anjana. As Lord Shiva had already told her what she was to do. so Anjana took the bowl full of celestial rice pudding and ate it up. She became pregnant and gave birth to Hanuman in due time.
It is believed that Hanuman was born on Tuesday, Chaitra Shukla Purnima. Some others belive that Hanuman was born on Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi in the Magha nakshatra. Some others believe that he was born on Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi  and Some believe that his birth Tithi was Kartik Shukla Purnima. Some say that the day was Tuesday and some others say that it was Saturday.

(7.2.15) Jainism/ Teachings of Jainism Religion.

What are the Teachings of Jainism or Jain religion

Jainism is traditionally known as the Jain Dharm, Which emphasizes on practicing non violence. The word Jainism is derived from the Sanskrit verb 'Jin' which means to conquer. The person who conquers the battle with the passions and bodily pleasure is the real follower of Jainism. Though there had been twenty three 'Tirthankars' before Lord Mahavir, yet this religion became very popular with the name of its twenty fourth Tirthankar ' Lord Mahavir'. some of the important teachings of Jain religion are as follows -
1. Jainism encourages spiritual development through cultivation of personal wisdom and through reliance on self control.
2. Jainism lays great stress upon non-violence. It teaches that there is life in all small and big creatures and plants. Not even the minutest creature is to be harmed. The highest form of Ahinsa is practiced by the Jain Munis.
3. Non-Violence cannot be followed without the practice of truth. A man who tells a lie, hurts others. Only a true follower of truth can live by non-violence. So non-violence and truth go hand in hand.
4. Jain scriptures teach that the greatest duty of man is to love all creatures. One who hates his fellow beings and other living beings can never be a follower of Jainism. One who loves one's fellow beings and is ready to sacrifice one's everything for them can alone follow it.
5. According to Jainism, Everyone should lead a simple life. This teaching is based on high philosophy. One who lives a life of great comfort and luxury does so at the cost of others.
6Those who earn a large amount of wealth, do so by exploiting others. They deprive others even of their ordinary requirements. A true follower of Jainism must have minimum wants. He must learn to control his desires.
7. Minimization of wants and simple living is the fundamental principle of Jainism.
8. Jainism teaches us to have faith in our own actions. There is no place of fatalism.
