(12.4.3) The Song of the Free

The song of the Free - An inspiring Poem
The following poem, composed by Swami Vivekanand, is very inspiring. It expresses his views on the philosophy of 'Advaitvad'.It expresses the poet's faith in the divine character of human soul.
The Poem
The wounded snake its hood unfurls,
The flame stirred up doth blaze,
The desert air resounds the calls,
Of heart-struck Lion's rage;
The cloud puts forth its deluge strength,
When lightning cleaves its breast,
When the soul is stirred to its inmost depth,
Great ones unfold their best.

Let eyes grow dim and grow faint,
And friendship fail and love betray.

Let fate its hundred sorrows send,
And clotted darkness block the way.

And nature were one angry frown,

To crush you, out-still know my soul,
You are divine, March on and on,
Nor right nor left, but to the goal.
(Composed by - Swami Vivekanand)
The central idea and the teachings of the poem-
There are pains and sufferings all around us in this world. But one who has firm faith in God is not afraid of miseries and troubles.
Adversity gives man an opportunity to show his best powers. The snake attacks man only when it is hurt. The tiger roars when it is struck by the arrows of the hunter. He never fears any bullet. His only aim is to attack the hunter. In the same way one who has firm in God, is never shaken by sufferings and failures. He never leaves his right path.
The poet says that the man must not be afraid even if all the worldly powers are against him.Godhood is the goal of his life and he should always remember it. The success will touch his feet in the end.He must face all difficulties boldly. the poet knows that his soul is divine so he will never fail. This faith gives him power to march forward. Man with divine soul has a definite aim in life.
The poet says that whatever difficulties come in our path, we should not feel disturbed or forget our goal. Let difficulties come in our way, let darkness block our path, we must remember that we have to move forward and continue our efforts to obtain our goal. We must remember that our goal is divine and God is with us. We have to attain higher goal in life and nothing can stop us from attaining it.
