(14.3.6) Charanamrit / Why is Charanamrit taken

Importance of Charanamrit

What is Charanamrit :-
Charanamrt is the holy water with which the feet of the idol  of god are washed.According to the Hinduism this Charanamrit is considered as very pious and holy.
Why is Charanamrit taken :-
It is believed that Charanamrit has the power to cure the diseases of the persons who take it with full faith. It keeps away the untimely death. It removes the sins of the person. It is a divine medicine.
The importance of Charanamrit :-
In the Ramcharitmanas the importance of Charanamrit is mentioned like this -
पद पखारि जलु पान करि आपु सहित परिवार।
पितर पारु करि प्रभुहि पुनि मुदित गयउ लेइ पार।।
(अयोध्या काण्ड दोहा १०१ )
Meaning :- The Kevat (ferryman) washed the feet of Shri Ram Chandra Ji and drank the water ( the Charanamrit) with the members of his family. By drinking the Charanamrit , he transported the souls of his deceased fore fathers across the ocean of metempsychosis and then gladly took (the Lord) Shri Ram across the river.
In another scripture the following Shlok is also found which shows the importance of Charanamrit -
अकाल मृत्यु हरणं सर्व व्याधि विनाशनम्।
विष्णोः पादोदकं पीत्वा पुनर्जन्म न विद्यते ।।
Meaning :-The person who takes the Charanamrit of Lord Vishnu does not have the fear of untimely death, this Charanamrit makes him free from the diseases ( and as a result he enjoys the physical as well as the mental health.) By taking the Charanamrit the person does not have to take rebirth and attains liberation. Thus it is clear why people take Charanamri and what its importance is.

(12.4.1) Think before you act to avoid unpleasant results

Before undertaking any task one must think deeply over it and its consequences. He must carefully consider whether what he is going to do is really conducive of good to him and correct at once whatever defect appears to him therein. Here is a Kundali composed by the poet Giridhar which shows what happen to a person who does the work without giving careful consideration to it -
Binaa vichaare jo kare, So paachhe pachhitaay.
Kaam bigaare aapano, Jag men hot Hasaay.
Jag men hot Hasaay chitt men chain na paave.
khaan- paan sanmaan, raag- rang manahi na bhaave.
Kah Giridhar kaviraay dukh kachu tarat na taare.
Khatakat hai jiy maahi, kiyo jo bina bichare.
Meaning in English - One who takes up any work without due consideration of its pros and cons surely comes to grief . Not only does he spoil the work and become an object of laughter in the eyes of the world , but he loses the peace of his mind , and the pleasure of the world lose all charm for him ,  Girdhar , the poet says the laws of Karm are inexorable. The work done without due consideration pricks the heart like a spike.

ONAM Festival

Onam is a harvest festival of Kerala. It is a festival of Joy and happiness. It comes during rainy season. The nature is also in a cheerful mood. It's green all around. The people decorate their houses beautifully and cook special food. They put on new clothes and make merry. There is a lot of singing and dancing. Onam is celebrated to  welcome their beloved King Mahabali.
Onam is a ten day long festival. Of these ten days the  two days, the first day and the last day are very important days. The first day is known as Atham which is considered auspiocious. On this day Pookalam (A flower carpet) is prepared. This Pooklam is made to welcome the king Mahabali. People add fresh flowers to the design of Pooklam. The tenth day is known as Thiru Onam.

The legend of Onam-
Once a demon king Mahabali ruled over this earth. He was a powerful king. He snatched the kingdom of gods. The gods went to Lord Vishnu and prayed Him to help them win back their kingdom. At this Lord Vishnu took the form of a dwarf, dressed like a Brahmin and called at king Mahabali's palace.
"What do you want, Sir ? "asked the king with folded hands.
"Only a piece of land measuring my three steps, " Said the dwarf.
"Go ahead, please and measure it where you like," said the king Mahabali.
The dwarf at once changed in to a huge form and measured the whole earth in one step. In the second step he measured the heaven. Now there remained nothing to put the third step. King Mahabli requested the Brahmin to put his third step on his head.
Lord Vishnu was very pleased with Mahabali and showed him his real form and asked him for his wish.
Mahabali said," My Lord, I love my people very much. I only want to come back and see them once a year."
"So will it be," said the Lord Vishnu.
Since then Mahabali returns to this earth for one day every year. The people of Kerala celebrate the festival of Onam to welcome their beloved king Mahabli.

Other important things about Rashi -
(1) To know the Rashi the letters of the Hindi alphabet are taken or considered and not the letters of English alphabet because there is a difference between the pronunciation of the letters of the alphabets of these two languages and this difference plays a big role. Because of this difference there may be two Rashis with one letter of English alphabet. But such thing does not occur when the letters of Hindi alphabet are taken for knowing the Rashi. The following example will  make this thing clearly -
The names 'Daraasingh' and 'Darvin' begin with the same letter 'D' but when we write these names (दारासिंह and डार्विन) using the letters of Hindi alphabet , the first letter of these two names will be 'दा' and 'डा' respectively.
Thus the Rashi of दारा सिंह (Daaraasingh) is  Kumbh whereas the Rashi  of डार्विन (Darvin) is Kark.
(2) All the letters formed with 'sa'(स) and 'Sha'(श) will have the same Rashi i.e. Kumbh.
Example -
The Rashi of सं = Sanjay, सु = Susheel, सी = Seeta, श = Shashikaant, शि = Shivaraaj, शी = Sheelaa etc. is Kumbh.
Whereas the Rashi of the names beginning with 'Sh'(ष) is Kanya, e.g. the Rashi of ष = Shadaanan is Kanya.
(3) When the name begins with the joint or combined letters , for knowing the Rashi  of such name , the first letter of them is considered.
Example -
The name 'Dropadi' begins with the joint letters 'दो + र'. For knowing the Rashi, the first letter 'दो' will be  considered and thus the Rashi of द्रो = Dropadi is Meen.

(6.2.14) Name sign or birth sign (Which should be considered)

Name sign or Birth Sign
When to consider name sign and when to consider  Birth sign ?
What is the Birth Sign ?
The birth sign or Janma Rashi is the Sign or Rashi in which the Moon was placed at the time of ones's birth. It is also called Moon sign.
What is the name sign ?
When the person does not know the exact time of his/her birth, in that case the first letter of his/her famous name is considered for his/her Rashi (Sign).
Which of these two signs (Birth Sign and name sign ) should be considered ?
If the person does not know  his birth sign, for all the events of her/her life, only the name sign is considered.
But  when the person knows his birth sign as well as his name sign, then the confusion arises which of these two should be considered. To remove this confusion the astrological scriptures say the following things -
1. For all the auspicious occasion like marriage, religious journey, effects of the planets, the Janma Rashi or the birth sign should be given preference.
2. For the muhurat for Griha Pravesh, business, vehicle, matters related to court etc, the name sign is given preference.
