(7.2.18) Bihari ke Dohe / Dohe of Bihari / Bihari Satsai

Ethical and educative Dohes of the poet Bihari

Bihari, whose full name was Bihari Lal Choube, was a famous poet. He was born in Gwalior. After his marriage he shifted to Mathura where his father in-law's family lived. He is famous for composing 'Bihari-Satsai', which is in Braj Bhasha (a language spoken in the area of Mathura and other nearby places) and contains about seven hundred couplets (distiches).
The following are some of the educative, ethical and moral Dohes (couplets) composed by the famous and popular poet -

(1)  Kanaka - Kanak Tai sou guno, Maadakataa adhikaay.
Uhin khaayen bouraai nar, ihin paayen bourai.

(2) Nar kee aru nal neer kee, Gati ekai kari Joi.
Jetou neechou hvai (ह्वै ) chalai, Tetou unchou hoi.

(3) Badhat- Badhat sampati salil, Man saroj badhi jaai.
Ghat- ghat su na phiri ghatai, Baru samool kumhilai (कुम्हिलाइ) 

(4) Meen na neeti galeetu hvai ( ह्वै ), Jou Dhariyai dhanu jori.
Khaaen (खाऐं) kharachai jou jurai , To joriyai kariri.

(5) Chatak na chhandat ghatat (घटत) hoon, Saiian neh gambheeru.
Pheekou parai na baru phatai rangyou (रँग्यौ ) rang cheeru.

(6) Koti jatan kou karou , parai  na prakritihin ( प्रकृतिहि ) beech 
Nal - bal  jal unchain (ऊँचें ) chadhai , Ant neech kou( कौ ) neech.
