(7.2.20) Vrind Ke Dohe / Dohe of Vrind (Page - Second)

Vrind Ke Dohe /Kavi Vrand Ke Dohe

(For Hindi Translation in Dev nagari script click here)
The poet Vrind's Dohes are very popular among the persons who have literary taste.
His Dohes teach us practical knowledge and experience of life. The language of Vrind is easy to comprehend but it has deep meaning which has indelible impression on the mind of the reader.

The following are some of the Dohes composed by the Poet Vrind which we hope that the visitors to this site  will enjoy them also.
 (1) Jaako jahaan swaarath sadhe, Sohi taahi suhaat.
Chor na pyaaree chaandanee, Jaise kaaree raat.
Meaning in English -
Everybody likes the things or places where his interests are accomplished. Though moon light looks very beautiful and pleasant yet a thief does not like it. He (the thief) likes dark nights more than the moonlit nights ( though they are more unpleasant and uglier than the moonlit nights.)
----------
(2) Bhalee karat laagat bilam, Bilam na bure vichaar.
Bhawan banaavat din lage, Dhaahat lage na baar.
Meaning in English -
It takes time to do good things whereas for doing bad things it is easy and does not take a long time. In getting a building constructed, it takes a long time, but in dismantling or destroying it , it takes no time.
------------
(3) Binaa swaarath kaise sahe , kou (कोऊ) karuve bain.
Laat khaay puchakaarye, hou (होऊ ) dudhaaru dhain.
Meaning in English -
No one endures the bitter words of others without any interest.People fondle or caress a milch cow (a cow which gives milk) even if it kicks them.
--------
(4) Hitahoo bhalo na neech ko, naahin bhalo ahet.
Chaat apaavan tan kare, kaat swaan dukh det.
Meaning in English -
Neither the good deeds nor the bad deeds done by an ignoble person are beneficial. If a dog licks  someone, it makes his body dirty or filthy and if it (the dog) bites someone, it causes harm to him and proves troublesome.
-------------
(5) Swaarath ke sabahi sage, bin swaarath kou (कोऊ) naahi.
Sevai panchee saras taru, niras bhaye ud jaahi.
Meaning in English -
The  birds sit and make their nests on a green tree but when the tree is dried, no bird likes to stay on that tree. Similarly people enjoy the company of others till their interest is fulfilled. After it they leave their company and go away.
------------
(6) Neekee pe pheekee lage, bin avasar kee baat.
Jaise baranat yuddha men, ras shringaar na suhaat.
Meaning in English -
If the thing (even if it is good), is said at the improper time, it looks bad , unpleasant and charmless and has wrong impression. When the battle is going on , the talking about love and beauty, does not look good and nobody likes it.
-----------
(7) Madhur vachan te jaat mit, uttamjan abhimaan.
Tanik seet jal se mite, jaise doodh uphaan.
Meaning in English -
The boiled over milk can be calmed down by sprinkling a few drops of cool water over it. In the same way the anger of a good person can be cooled down by speaking a few sweet words to him.
----------
