(2) On this day new year begins in Gujrat and some other parts of India. So this Tithi is considered as important as Chaitra Shukla Pratipada is.
(3) Govardhan Pooja is celebrated on kartik shukla pratipada. On this day Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Parvat on His little finger and saved the people of Braj from the heavy rain fall caused by Indra.
In the memory of this event in the morning people make mounds of cow dung(it is the symbol of Govardhan Parvat ), they decorate them with flowers and worship them.
(4) People make different kinds of Bhog ( dishes ) to offer to Lord Krishna and then they distribute this Bhog as Prasad. It is known as Annakoot.
